Ruth L. Gruhle

Ruth L. Gruhle, 94, of West Bend, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the town of Polk.

She was born on March 21, 1915, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lillian (Brandenburg) Corbett. The family moved to New Fane when Ruth was a child, and she graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1932. On April 1, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Willard Gruhle. After their marriage, the couple lived on the Gruhle homestead on Orchard Valley Road near Fillmore, returning to New Fane in 1956 with their family.


Ruth was the first Food Service Manager for the Kewaskum Public School District, a job she held for 25 years. Ruth and Willard had made their home in West Bend since 2002, and were very active in Habitat for Humanity. Ruth was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.


Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Willard; three children, Karen (Ron) McCreedy of Fond du Lac, Sandy Gruhle of Saukville and Bill (Nancy) Gruhle of Kewaskum; five grandchildren, Scott (Sue) McCreedy of Fairbanks, Alaska, Shawn (Rhonda) McCreedy of Slinger, Heidi (Lucas) Alonzo of West Allis, Aaron Gruhle of West Bend and Heather Gruhle of San Diego, California, six great-grandchildren and one yet to be born, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.


A Memorial Service for Ruth was held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum with Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiating. Cremation took place and burial of the cremains was in Fillmore Union Cemetery in Fillmore.


Relatives and friends called on Tuesday at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until the time of services.
