Sharon Ann Dickey, (Wesenberg), age 69, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015, at her home. She was born on July 29, 1945, in Kewaskum, Wis., the daughter of Walter and Elverena Wesenberg. She graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1963. Sharon moved to Madison in 1964, starting as a clerk at UWHospitals. Sharon married Lawrence Dickey in 1968. Sharon and Lawrence loved to travel throughout Wisconsin and were fans of the Badgers and Packers. Larry underwent the first heart transplant at UW. He passed on in 1980.
Sharon was a loving sister, aunt and will be missed by her family including her brothers Dr. Richard Wesenberg (Portland, OR Ped. Radiologist)-a 1962 alumnus of the UW Medical School, and Darryl Wesenberg (Calumet, MI). She is further survived by her nephew, Dist. Attny (Douglas Co-Oregon)Richard Wesenberg Jr., and nieces, Dr. Karen J. Wesenberg-Pulmonologist and Crit. Care (Portland Or),and Kristen Wesenberg-Doak,(grad of Lewis and Clark Law School-Portland), and her great-nephews and nieces.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Sharon began to work at University of Wisconsin Hospital as a nursing assistant and health unit clerk in 1964. She worked on the Neuroscience unit for almost 51 years. In those 51 years, Sharon was a wonderful resource to over 233 neurology residents, 69 neurosurgical residents, and hundreds of nurses. She was known for her strong knowledge of the hospital’s protocols and policies. She was the “constant” in an ever-changing healthcare world. Sharon was honored by the University of Wisconsin Hospital last year for her 50 years of employment. She was truly dedicated to her job and to the staff in the hospital.
Memorial Reception will be held at the University of Wisconsin Hospital on April 24, 2015 @ 3:30-5:30 in J5/130. Burial will be at Peace Church Cemetery in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, Tues, April 28, at 3:00 p,m,
A special heartfelt thanks to all the employees and physicians on the Neuroscience unit and Neuroscience ICU who made Sharon feel loved and special.
