Shirley A. Salter, age 85, of West Bend passed away Thursday morning, June 28th, 2018 surrounded by her loving sons.
Shirley was born on a cheese factory July 20th 1932 to the late Gerhart and Raenata (nee Duchow) Stecker. She attended Fond du Lac Senior High School and graduated in the class of 1950. Shirley graduated from the two-year nursing program at the Columbia School of Nursing. Shirley was united in marriage to Dan Salter at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac on August 10, 1952.
Shirley’s inquisitiveness and caring nature led to a rewarding career as a surgeon’s assistant at the General Clinic. Her retirement years were spent with Dan going to many auctions and estate sales to fill their home and antique spaces. And one of her favorites was in Door County.
Shirley will forever be remembered for her kindness and genuine interest in others. She always enjoyed making new friends. A tribute to Shirley was her steadfast caring for her family.
Shirley is survived by her four sons, Tom (Donna) of Marshall, VA, Terry of West Bend, Tim (Alison) of Silverado, CA, and Ted (Sue) of West Bend; two granddaughters, Kaitlin and Kimberly Salter; six step-grandchildren, Cassandra (Philipp Zilm) Osborne-Zilm, Nicholas (Cheryl Nieder) Osborne, Michael (Evelyn Flores, children: Riley and Henry) Harrison, Eleana (Andrew, children: Deklynn and Emery) Fanaika, Christa (Bryan, daughter: Mackenzie) Meathe, and Colleen Harrison. Shirley is further survived by two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Salter of Fond du Lac and Alice Stecker of Nebo, NC and many other close relatives and dear friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband Dan; by her parents, Gerhart and Raenata; her infant son, Daniel Salter Jr. and her brother Franklin Stecker.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 6:00 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church (1044 Silverbrook Dr. West Bend, WI 53095). Rev. Darrin Wiebe will officiate and inurnment of Shirley’s cremated remains will be in Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 3:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm.
