Shirley A. Sperger

Shirley A. Sperger, 73, of Lomira, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2009, at Kindred Hearts Memory Care in Fond du Lac with her children at her side.


She was born on January 13, 1936, in St. Kilian, the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Lucy (Eilbes) Weiland. On August 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to Donald Sperger at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. The couple farmed in the town of LeRoy for many years before moving to Lomira. Donald preceded Shirley in death on November 24, 1981.


Shirley was employed by Regal Ware, Inc. in Kewaskum and was a member of the 25 Year Club. A favorite pastime was crocheting and Shirley made many beautiful crocheted blankets for family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. Shirley will be deeply missed by her children, her family and by all who knew her.


Those she leaves behind are her children, Kathy (Richard) Hass of Fond du Lac and John (Krista) Sperger of Ripon; five grandchildren, Laura (Scott) Gustin of St. Cloud and Alisa Hass of Sheboygan, Megan, Joshua and Nicole Sperger all of Ripon; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Sydney Gustin; a sister, Agnes (Fridolin) Heinecke of Allenton; two brothers, Robert (Shirley) Weiland of Milwaukee and Albert (Audrey) Weiland of West Bend, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband and parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Daniel on October 10, 1975; an infant sister; a sister, Florence (Alfred) Schmidt and a brother, Gerald Weiland.


A celebration of Shirley’s life was held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee Street in Lomira. Father Dennis Budka officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the parish cemetery.


Relatives and friends called at the church on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.


Shirley’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Robert Grass, the staff of Woodlands, Kindred Hearts Memory Care and Creative Care Options for the tender, compassionate care provided to Shirley.
