Sylvia C. Burke

Sylvia C. Burke, 89, of the town of Scott, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the Beechwood Rest Home in Beechwood.


She was born on August 13, 1918, in the town of Osceola, the daughter of the late Otto and Erma (Wittenberg) Schmidt. She attended grade school in Armstrong and on October 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to William Burke at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dundee. Her husband preceded her in death on July 27, 1982.


Sylvia was employed as a clerk at William’s Grocery Store in Beechwood for over 25 years. Later she worked at Amity Leather Products in West Bend, retiring after 15 years of service. She later worked at the Beechwood Rest Home baking for the residents.


Sylvia was a lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dundee. She was an active member of the Ladies Aid Society, where she held various offices.


Survivors include two sons, Dale Burke (special friend, April) of Beechwood and Gary Burke of Adell; two brothers, Eugene (Joyce) Schmidt of Beechwood and Elmer (Lois) Schmidt of Adell; two sisters, Phyllis (Howard) Narges of Waucousta and Carol (Ken) Koth of Kewaskum; a sister-in-law, Gayl Schmidt of Beechwood, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband and parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin “Mike” (Lillie) Schmidt and Jerome Schmidt; her parents-in-law, Gordon and Alma Burke; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Hazel (nee Burke) (Martin) Roltgen and Phyllis (nee Burke) (Francis) Baker.


Funeral services for Sylvia were held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, W494 Elm Street, in Dundee. Rev. Richard Schliewe officiated and burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the church cemetery.


Relatives and friends called on Thursday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.
