Sylvia L. Petit-Shimunek, age 89, of West Bend, formerly of Milwaukee, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.
She was born in Louisville, KY on December 19, 1917 to the late Marius and Mary (nee Miles) Petit. At a young age she moved with her family to Park Falls. In 1935 after finishing high school in Park Falls, Sylvia moved to Milwaukee to attend college. One year later she was united in marriage to Harry Shimunek. Together they resided in Milwaukee, and Sylvia went to work at Allis Chalmers. She also worked as a beautician, and after her husband Harry died in 1971, she built homes in Milwaukee with Leslie Bauer.
Sylvia is survived by two grandchildren, Patricia Ann (Scott) Shimunek-Brill of Madison, and Lora Lynn Shimunek-VanGuilder of the state of Washington; 8 great-grandchildren, William, Erica, Sarah, Brooke, Ryan, Robert, Luke, and Nicole; sisters, brothers, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick John Shimunek; two granddaughters, Linda Lee Shimunek, and Sharon Lynn Shimunek; and dear companion, Leslie Bauer.
Graveside services will be held on Monday February 26th at 2:00 pm at Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee.
In honor of Sylvia's life memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or the Samaritan Health Center.
