Thomas J. “Tom” Skrentny, 72, of Kewaskum, formerly of Sun Prairie, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.
He was born on September 17, 1938, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Raymond and Ann (Felden) Skrentny, and he was a 1957 graduate of St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary. On July 16, 1966, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Butzke at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum.
Tom and Bonnie made their home in Sun Prairie for 32 years. The couple was very active with the Sun Prairie Civic Theater. Tom was a member of St. Albert’s Catholic Church and the choir group. In April 2006 Tom and Bonnie moved to Kewaskum. Tom was a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum.
Tom loved to sing and enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors, cross-country skiing, researching family genealogy and creating beautiful counted cross-stitch pieces. Tom collected vintage Santa Claus post cards, antique post cards of Kewaskum and antique Stanley tools. He loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and friends. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Those Tom leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Bonnie; two children, Michelle (Brian) Powers of Lake Mills and Michael (Jacqueline) Skrentny of Oshkosh; four grandchildren, Grace and Asher Skrentny, Jessica and Nicole Powers; four brothers, Raymond (Chris) Skrentny of New Berlin, Barney (Julia) Skrentny of England, David Skrentny of Beaver Dam and Jerome Skrentny of West Bend; two sisters-in-law, Jane (Rev. Robert) Laubenstein of Green Bay and Kelly (Dr. Craig) Rosenthal of Kewaskum; three brothers-in-law, Robert (Kathy) Butzke of West Bend, Thomas (Terry) Butzke of Wauconda, Illinois and Robert Teeple of Kewaskum, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tom as preceded in death by a brother, Robert Skrentny and a sister-in-law, Mary Woolman.
A Memorial Service for Tom was held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First Street in Kewaskum. Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiated and burial of Tom’s cremains will be in the church cemetery at a later date.
Tom’s family received visitors at the church on Sunday from noon until the time of services.
