Vernon C. Glamann, age 90, of Mayville, passed away after a short, but courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Mayville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Mayville.
Vernon was born on April 3, 1922 in Rubicon to the late Emil and Esther (nee Thom) Glamann. On March 21, 1942, he was united in marriage to Florence Mueller at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge.
Vernon worked as a truck driver, mechanic, and dispatcher for Crescent Trucking Company for 38 years. In 1985 he retired with the major highlight being when they moved to Crivitz and owned a home on the Peshtigo flowage. Vernon was an avid ice fisherman and loved to take rides on his pontoon boat. In 1992, he and his wife moved back to Mayville.
Vernon was an active and longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. One of his favorite hobbies was his greenhouse. With his green thumb, he could grow anything. Vernon especially loved red geraniums and orange tropicana roses.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Florence Glamann of Mayville; two children, Dr. John (Suzanne) Glamann of Lake Wales, FL and Sharon (Gene) Wild of Mayville; three grandchildren, Tricia (Drew Naumann) Wild of Mayville, John (Kathie) Wild of Mayville, and Faith Glamann of Lake Wales, FL; two great-grandchildren, Landen Wild and Abby Glamann; two sisters, Bernice Bunkoske of Mayville and Pearl Schulz of Hartford; two brothers, Donald (Betty) Glamann of Moss Point, MS and Marvin Glamann of West Bend; other relatives and friends.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Cindy and Susanne; two sisters, Viola (John) James and Ruth (Ardell) Schmidt; infant brother, Palmer; and two brothers-in-law, Elmer Bunkoske and Richard Schulz.
Funeral services in remembrance of Vernon will be held on Wednesday, June 13th at 1:00 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church (Hwy. 67 & County WS) Woodland. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Cremation will follow and burial of Vernon's cremated remains will be in Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Generations Hospice, Mayville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, or a charity of your choice are greatly appreciated by the family.
