Victor H. Backhaus, 88, of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.
He was born on June 22, 1926, in Kewaskum, the son of the late Herman and Elsie (Backhaus) Backhaus, and on January 5, 1991, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Goebel at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Horicon.
Victor was a farmer by trade and did custom work for many local farmers. John Deere tractors were his pride and joy. Victor also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing with his friends. He was an avid Packer football fan and enjoyed going to many games in Green Bay. Victor was an active member of the Kewaskum Lions Club for many years. He was a lifelong member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum and was the cemetery sexton for 29 years.
Those Victor leaves behind to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 24 years, Rose Marie; four step-children, Laure Goebel of Kewaskum, Henry Goebel of Bonduel, Tom Goebel and John Goebel both of Los Angeles, California; six sisters-in-law, Gertie Backhaus of West Bend, Dolores Kiefer of West Bend, Joyce (Bob) Streblow of Fond du Lac, Loraine (Nick) Cariello of North Carolina, Mary Ann Schalinske of Tony and Jean Alice (Art) Collien of Eagle River, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Victor was preceded in death by two brothers, Karl (Beulah) Backhaus and Myron Backhaus; a sister, Lucille (Elroy) Butzke and four brothers-in-law, Andrew Kiefer, Hugo (Marion) Kiefer, Raymond Kiefer and Jerry Schalinske.
A Memorial Service for Victor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum with Rev. Eric Kirkegaard and Rev. Robert Laubenstein officiating. Burial of Victor's cremains will follow in the church cemetery.
Victor's family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
