Walter E. Boerger, age 78, of West Bend, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Gary, IN.
He was born on January 30, 1931 in West Bend to the late Walter H. and Lily (nee Knippil) Boerger. Walter graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1950. He went on to honorably serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Walter was united in marriage to Beverly Behling on October 24, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Walter and Beverly owned and operated the former Boerger's Floral, Landscaping & Garden Center. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Loyal Order of the Moose West Bend Lodge # 1398, the Fred A. Schaefer V.F.W. Post # 1393, and various landscaping and nursery organizations.
Walter is survived by his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Ann (James) Boerger-Swift of Milwaukee and Amy (John) Boerger-Fields of Laramie, WY; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Swift, Peter Swift and Shelbie Fields; a sister, June Coburn of Wabash, IN; a brother, Robert (Lyla) Boerger of West Bend; a sister-in-law Lynn (Steve) Kieffer of Florida; two brothers-in-law, George (Connie) Behling of Hancock, and Tom (Nancy) Behling of Scottsdale, AZ; other relatives and many friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Audrey Boerger; parents-in-law, Ermine (James) Crass, and George (Alice) Behling.
Funeral services and Moose services in remembrance of Walter will be held on Sunday, September 6th at 4:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. David Schoob will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday at the church from 1:00 pm until the time of the services. Cremation will follow at Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral & Cremation Service and Inurnment will be in Washington County Memorial Park.
