Walter "Wally" J. Betz

Walter “Wally” J. Betz Jr., 86 of Lomira passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021.

He was born on June 6, 1935, to the late Walter Sr. and Helen (nee McCarthy) Betz. Walter grew up in Byron and was a member of St. John’s Church. On Sept 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Buerger at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira where prior generations of his family were married. He cherished his catholic faith and was an active member at St. Mary’s. Walter owned and operated his semi and dump truck business for many years. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and cooking Sunday dinner for the family. Walter especially enjoyed spending time with his family and will be missed.

Those Walter leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 65 years, Mary Ann Buerger; three children, Gregory (Lauri) Betz, Gene Betz, and Marcia Betz; three grandchildren, Barbara (Noah) Zahn, Mary Alice (Don) Luedtke, and Walter Betz; two great-grandchildren, Lucy Zahn and Sawyer Luedtke; a sister, Alice Scannell; a brother, Daniel (Norma) Betz; three brothers-in-law, Conrad (Audrey) Buerger, Michael Buerger, and Dean (Stephanie) Buerger; four sisters-in-law, Jean Buerger, Joan Buerger, LuEllen (Kenneth) Reimer, and Donna Herman; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Silverious, and mother-in-law, Olive Buerger; three brothers-in-law, Joseph Buerger, William Buerger, and Franscis Herman, and a sister-in-law, Gladys Buerger.

A Memorial Mass in remembrance of Walter will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee St., Lomira.
