Wilbur E. Proeber

August 26, 1916 — June 13, 2008

Wilbur E. Proeber, age 91, of West Bend, passed away Friday June 13, 2008 at Cedar Lake Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on August 26, 1916 in Milwaukee to the late William and Emma (nee Lein) Proeber, and moved with his family to West Bend at a young age. On August 17, 1940 Wilbur was united in marriage to LaVerna Abel at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend.

Wilbur worked as a tool & die maker at the Gehl Company for over 42 years until his retirement in 1982.

He had been an active member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Gehl Company Hexelbank Club, and a long time treasurer for AAL (now Thrivent Financial for Lutherans). Wilbur enjoyed listening to polka music, dancing, and playing sheepshead.

He is survived by two daughters, Judith Koenig of West Bend, and Sharon Larson of Wayne; three grandchildren, Janet (Brad) Montgomery of Livingston, AL, Bruce (Ronda) Koenig of West Bend, and Brad (Kelly) Koenig of Wisconsin Dells; six great-grandchildren, Brock, Jade, Jessica, Alason, Martin, and Madeline; a sister, Ruth Chapa of Milwaukee; two sisters-in-law, Lois Proeber of Mc Henry, IL, and Elvira Schaub of West Bend; a special friend Rita Gitter of Menomonee Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerna in 1996; two brothers, Harold & Margareth Proeber, and Arnold Proeber; two sons-in-law, Bernie Koenig, and Darrell Larson; and a brother-in-law, Steve Chapa.

Funeral services in remembrance of Wilbur will be held on Wednesday June 18th at 2:00 pm at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church ( 809 S. 6th Ave. ). Rev. George Mumm will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church only from 12:00 (noon) until the time of service.

Memorials in Wilbur's name may be given to the charity of your choice.
