Willard F. Gruhle

Willard F. Gruhle, 94, of West Bend, passed away at Cedar Communities on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.


He was born to William H. and Ella (nee Meuschke) Gruhle on July 5, 1917, on the family homestead on Orchard Valley Road. On April 1, 1939, he married Ruth Corbett, a marriage that lasted seventy years. He was the fourth generation of his family to farm the homestead, which he did until 1956. He then moved his family to New Fane, where he resided until 2000 when he and Ruth moved to West Bend. Ruth passed away on May 18, 2009.


Willard was a retired employee of Phoenix Products in Milwaukee and a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum. Until the age of 92, Willard was active in “builds” for Habitat for Humanity.


Those Willard leaves behind to cherish his memory include three children, Karen (Ron) Mc Creedy of Fond du Lac, Sandra Gruhle of Saukville and William "Bill" (Nancy) Gruhle of Kewaskum; five grandchildren, Lt. Col. Scott (Sue) McCreedy (USAF, Ret.) of Monument, Colorado, Shawn (Rhonda) McCreedy of Slinger, Heidi (Lucas) Alonzo of West Allis, Aaron Gruhle of West Bend and Heather Gruhle of Chicago; seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a cousin, other relatives and many friends.


In addition to his wife and parents, Willard was preceded in death by three sisters and an infant brother.


A memorial service for Willard was held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First Street in Kewaskum. Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiated and burial of his cremains was at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Fillmore Union Cemetery in Fillmore.


The family received visitors at the church on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.


Memorials may be directed to either Peace U.C.C. or Habitat for Humanity in care of Peace U.C.C.


The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Willard’s arrangements.
