Wilmer G. "Smitty" Smith, age 76, of the Town of Addison, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Aurora Medical Center in Hartford.
He was born on May 7, 1935, in Escanaba, MI to the late William and Iva (nee Gallant) Smith. Wilmer served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1954. On May 26, 1973, he was united in marriage to Darlene Reif in Zion, IL.
Wilmer worked as a sheet metal supervisor for Briggs and Stratton in Milwaukee.
He was a member of Allenton American Legion Fohl-Martin Post #483.
Wilmer is survived by his wife, Darlene Smith of the Town of Addison; six children, Brenda Wake of Hampton, NH, Debra (Donald) Smith-Stone of Methuen, MA, Donna (Kevin) Rydle of Baldwin, ME, Roger (Patti) Post of Cudahy, Chris Smith of Hartford, and Kevin (Kristy) Smith of Hartford; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; four sisters, Darlene (Howard) Norskog of Lewiston, ID, Patty Witter of Winchester, VA, Cindy McGlinn of Neenah, and Betty Herman of Maitland, FL; three brothers, Wayne (Bonnie) Johnson of Grabill, IN, Garry (Kathy) Johnson of Woodburn, IN, and Robert (Shirley) Johnson of Riverview, FL; three sisters-in-law, Mary Harteau of Marinette, Dorothy (Clarence) Benser of Suring, and Mildred (Ray) Ermis of Peshtigo; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and two children, Wayne Smith and Kim Pond.
In honor of Wilmer's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Neenah.
