When searching for ways to personalize a funeral service, remember the moments you spent with the person and try to highlight the qualities that she or he are remembered for. Consider hobbies, subjects of interest, and places where the person spent much of his or her time. It can help to make lists of their passions, achievements and memories you shared together, and we can help you with this as well through the writing of the obituary. There are a number of ways that these lists can be incorporated into a service:
There are many opportunities to display photos at a funeral service. Poster boards (provided for free by our funeral home) with photo collages can be placed on easels (we also provide) for display. Flat screen TV monitors can be used to display pictures or a slideshow with music during the visitation, prior to the services, or during/after the service. Photographs can be printed in the memorial folders, registry book, or on certain urns.
A DVD/USB Tribute Video is a wonderful way to share your loved one’s life with others. It can be personalized with your special photos and music. These videos become keepsakes that you can share with your family for generations. Through Myrhum-Patten, these Tribute Videos may be directly linked to your loved one's obituary for all to see, or a private memento to pass along. Setting up the Tribute Video is a breeze; we simply email and text you a link to upload as many photos as you would like, and once you are done, you simply call or email us and we finalize the design, layout, and music.
Artwork of the deceased or art created in tribute is a beautiful addition to a service. Sculptures, a slideshow of drawings or displaying artwork throughout the funeral home helps people learn more about a life that was cherished. We have done services here at Myrhum-Patten where we take some of our own paintings down that are hung throughout our funeral homes and replace the spaces with loved one's artwork.
For avid hunters and fishers, we have hung up taxidermized animal/fish mounts, and even had a full canoe brought in for the urn to be displayed from. Don't be afraid to ask us if it's okay to bring in a full-sized motorcycle, because we have done this many times, and even have a connection to utilizing a motorcycle hearse.
Live or pre-recorded music can be relaxing and comforting to those who have come to the service. Some other ways music can be used is to record the deceased’s favorite songs or songs that he or she wrote or to have musically inclined family or friends perform at the funeral service. We have the full suite of Spotify available for usage to compile playlists of all songs liked by your loved one; or, if a family member wishes to create one, we can play music directly off their account or phone.
Passages from the deceased’s favorite books or poems that capture the essence of life help create a service infused with wisdom and words to remember. You can also invite friends and family members to read passages or poems of their choice or write their own pieces to share. We fully customize and design memorial cards in-house, so the sky is the limit with what verse/scripture can be printed on the cards. We have a selection of 66 verses in-house, or can use quotes, lyrics, poems, etc.
